Bad breath the cause and problem

Bad breath originates from the gums and tongue in a majority of patients. However, odor coming from the back of the tongue may indicate post-nasal drip. Bad breath also may occur in people who have an infection, gum disease, diabetes, kidney failure, or a liver malfunction.

Bad breath is no laughing matter and can actually be an indication of more serious health concerns such as infections. Bad breath, in nearly all cases, is due to anaerobic sulfur-producing bacteria, breeding beneath the surface of the tongue, and often in the throat and tonsil area. These anaerobic bacteria are found in the mouths of everyone. They are supposed to be there, because they serve a function they initiate the first stages of digestion by breaking down the proteins in foods that we eat and also assist in the breakdown of oral tissue as they regenerate.
